FirstClass Migrator has many customizable application settings, which you must set properly to ensure a successful migration.
It is important for you to familiarize yourself with these settings and set them up correctly before performing the desired migration. Improper settings may create inefficiency, cause a loss of information, or even corrupt data integrity.
All application settings are saved locally in the Windows Registry. Always use the Application Settings form to view or manipulate them.
When you make a change to an application setting, you must restart FirstClass Migrator for the change to take effect.
To open the Application Settings form:
1 Start FirstClass Migrator, bypassing any Microsoft Exchange login procedure you may encounter.
There are six tabs on the Application Settings form.
General tab
Migration Mode
The migration mode you prefer. FirstClass Migrator supports two migration modes, both of which resolve Directory object name conflicts between Microsoft Exchange and FirstClass:
Interactive mode
In interactive mode, whenever duplicate object names or user IDs are encountered, FirstClass Migrator prompts the user to enter a new object name or user ID. FirstClass Migrator verifies its uniqueness against the FirstClass Directory, and may continue to prompt the user until the problem is resolved. Since this mode requires a lot of administrator interference, it best fits small-scale migration scenarios.
Batch mode.
In batch mode, duplicate Directory object names or user IDs are automatically handled by FirstClass Migrator. FirstClass Migrator appends an arbitrary suffix to the duplicate object name or user ID, verifies its uniqueness against the FirstClass Directory, and changes the suffix if necessary until the problem is resolved. Since FirstClass Migrator automates the process, it is preferred by administrators facing a large-scale migration.
Protect migrated FirstClass objects
Select this option to set migrated FirstClass objects as "Protected".
Runtime log content
Specify information types for runtime log to record.
Microsoft Exchange tab
Exchange Server version
Specify Microsoft Exchange Server version. The selection will significantly affect the migrator LDAP operations.
Organization
Name of the Microsoft Exchange organization you last logged into. Read-only.
Organizational unit/Site
Name of the Microsoft Exchange site you last logged into. Read-only.
Log into Active Directory Service with alternate credentials
Select this option to log into the Active Directory Service with alternate credentials. Otherwise, the default credentials will be used (see LDAP Access for details).
Alternate credentials
If you selected "Log into Active Directory Service with alternate credentials", specify the user name and domain of the Windows NT account.
Account LDAP path (Exchange 2000 or later only)
Specify the LDAP path for Microsoft Exchange accounts that are going to migrate to FirstClass. The specified LDAP path will be used to manipulate the Microsoft Exchange accounts' related LDAP attributes during the migration if the option "Hide from Exchange GAL" or "Forward received messages" is selected on the "Account Migration" settings tab.
To facilitate your input, you can use the following macros while composing the LDAP path. These macros will be replaced automatically with corresponding actual values during the migration:
The default field value is "LDAP://$EX_HOME_SERVER$/cn=$EX_USER_NAME$,cn=Users,dc=$DOMAIN$".
This field applies only to Microsoft Exchange 2000 or later versions.
The macro $EX_USER_NAME$ must be included in the path.
FirstClass tab
Server name or IP address
The DNS name or IP address of the FirstClass server.
Proxy IP address
The network proxy settings of the local machine.
Administrator account ID
The FirstClass administrator痴 user ID.
Directories tab
Working directory
The directory where temporary files will be created.
Log directory
The directory where the Migration History Log and Runtime Log reside.
FirstClass network store directory
The full path to the FirstClass network store.
Account Migration tab
Type of FirstClass user
How you would like migrated accounts to be classified on FirstClass.
When you choose to migrate Microsoft Exchange accounts as regular users, make sure you have enough FirstClass licenses reserved for these new users. Otherwise, some accounts may fail to migrate.
FirstClass User ID created from
The Microsoft Exchange source from which the FirstClass User ID will be created.
The maximum length of the FirstClass user ID is 15 characters. If the selected Microsoft Exchange property contains a text string longer than 15 characters, it is automatically truncated.
Set FirstClass user password as
The FirstClass source from which the default user password will be set. If you choose "None", no password will be assigned to FirstClass accounts. If you choose "User ID", the default password will be created as the user ID.
The maximum length of the FirstClass user password is 12 characters. Characters that are not alphanumeric are automatically removed.
Initial FirstClass disk quota
The default disk quota initially assigned to new FirstClass accounts. This value must be large enough to accommodate all of a user's existing private messaging information in both the Microsoft Exchange mailbox and local PST files.
Make member of FirstClass user groups
Specify FirstClass user groups to which migrated accounts will be assigned. Separate group names with a semicolon (;).
Hide from Exchange Global Address List
Select this option to hide migrated Microsoft Exchange accounts from the Global Address List automatically upon migration.
Forward received messages to the corresponding FirstClass account using FirstClass Connector
Select this option to have FirstClass Connector for Microsoft Exchange automatically forward messages originally sent to the Microsoft Exchange account to its corresponding FirstClass account.
For Microsoft Exchange 2000 or later, when you select this option, you will also need to complete the "Designated recipient address" and "LDAP property "altRecipient" updating timeout" fields.
Designated recipient address
Specify the name of the user who will receive forwarded messages.
To facilitate your input, you can use the following macros while composing the recipient address. These macros will be replaced with corresponding actual values by migrator automatically during the migration:
The default field value is "cn=$EX_FC_CONTACT$,cn=Users,dc=$DOMAIN$".
LDAP property "altRecipient" updating timeout
The time you will give to confirm the modification of LDAP property "altRecipient". The default value is 60 seconds, and can be set to any value from 0 to 600 seconds (10 minutes).
Public Folder Migration tab
FirstClass container to accommodate replicated public folder tree
The Desktop level FirstClass container (a conference or folder) into which the whole Microsoft Exchange public folder tree will be rebuilt.
Migration script concurrency
The maximum number of FirstClass scripts FirstClass Migrator can submit simultaneously. The valid range is from 1 to 100, where 1 means disabled.
If this option is disabled, FirstClass Migrator will not submit the next script until a reply has been received from the previous script.
If this option is enabled, FirstClass Migrator sends FirstClass scripts consecutively without waiting for replies from previous FirstClass scripts. When the specified limitation is reached, FirstClass Migrator stops sending scripts until it has received replies from more than half the scripts that were sent.
Maximum messages within each script
The maximum number of messages each FirstClass script can contain. The valid range is from 1 to 1000, where 1 means disabled. While this option dramatically accelerates message migration, it also puts a strain on the FirstClass server, especially if you specified a large value.
Set Last Modified time of FirstClass messages
Select this option if you prefer to set the migrated FirstClass messages' "Last Modified Time" field against the original Microsoft Exchange timestamps. "As Original Exchange Last Modified time" keeps the messages' Last Modified Time. "As Original Exchange Received time" sets the messages' Last Modified Time as the Received Time.
FirstClass servers prior to version 8.0 do not officially support modifications to the Last Modified Time using FirstClass scripting. You should perform a pre-migration testing to make sure this feature is fully functional in your FirstClass server.
