Logging into a server
2 Fill in your user ID and password for this server on the FirstClass Login form.
3 Click Login to open your FirstClass Desktop.
The FirstClass Desktop
Once you have connected to a server, your Desktop on that server opens. Your administrator determines which conferences you start with on your Desktop, and the general Desktop layout.
For each object on your Desktop there are two links, the object's link and an Options link. To open an object on the Desktop, click its link. To select an object for an action, such as a change of its properties or permissions, click its Options link.
Standard page elements
Summary information
This section details the container name and the path to this container, summarizes the container contents, and indicates the server, your user name, and how much free space you have left on the server.
List of standard objects
The standard Desktop objects are provided in a list with two links for each object, the object link and the object's Options link.
List of items saved
Documents and other items you save on your Desktop are presented in a separate list. There are two links for each item, just as there are for the standard Desktop objects, but this list also includes columns with details about the items such as their size and when they were last modified.
Toolbar fields
Each page has its own toolbar fields. Choosing an action at a toolbar field and clicking Go tells FirstClass to perform that command. Many toolbars contain the Create field, which lets you create an object.

Working with messages
Messages work the same way whether you are in your Mailbox or a conference. An unread message is identified in the Flag column as Unread. To read a message, click its Go To link.
Creating a new message
1 Choose the message form at the Create field.
2 Click Go.
If you decide you want to use another form, with the form still open you can choose Delete at the Select field and click Go.
3 Address the message.
Tips for entering recipients' names:
All users and conferences known to the server (including users you added as personal addresses and mail lists) are stored in the Directory. To address a message to any user or conference in the Directory, you can type a partial name, then click To. The whole name is filled in if what you typed is unique in the Directory. Otherwise, the Directory opens with a list of all names that match. Click the name you want.
If you are in a conference, your new message is automatically addressed to that conference.
You can click the Go To link of a sent message then click the Create Mail To link to create a preaddressed message.
4 Type the message text in the body section.
5 Attach a file to the message, if desired.
Click Browse at "Attachments" and select the file, then click Attach. To attach a FirstClass object, click On Server, then select the object.
6 Send the message by clicking Send.
