How MWI redundancy works
Voice Services sends an invalid MWI request through the SMDI line to the switch and expects an error. If connection is lost (no error returned), Voice Services queues the MWI requests until the link is restored. Once the link is restored, the MWI requests are sent.

Only the most recent MWI request for each userID is sent to accurately reflect the state of the user's Mailbox.

Computer system requirements
Voice Services should run on a dedicated machine. This machine must meet the following minimum specifications. This machine will not be used in call processing and will only be used to set MWI.
81203_42521_14.png        Note
If you prefer to run Voice Services on the same machine as your FirstClass server and/or Internet Services, these minimum specifications must be added to the system requirements of the other components. Minimum system requirements for the FirstClass server, Internet Services and the FirstClass client can be found in FirstClass Administrator's Guide Business Edition, or FirstClass Administrator's Guide Education Edition.
•       Windows NT Workstation 4.0 or Windows 2000
The machine should have a high-end graphics card and a network card installed.
This machine can be gatewayed to a FirstClass server running on a Mac OS.
•       processor speed: 1 GB single processor
•       10 GB internal hard disk space
•       512 MB RAM per T1/E1 span
•       FirstClass client installed on the Voice Services machine.
This must be from the same release as your server.
•       COM port configured for the SMDI line.

Telephony hardware requirements
You will require a direct SMDI line from the CO to set MWI, and a serial port for the SMDI line.
