Project: Potluck stew
Grade Level: Grades K-3
Curriculum Area(s): Health and Physical Education, Language, Mathematics, Science, Technology
Features we use:
conference permissions (more information)
What's cooking in your class? Create an online recipe book. Students are responsible for submitting a recipe, literature connection, and photo of the finished product. The finished project would be displayed online.
STEP 1: Create the FirstClass environment.
1 Create a Potluck conference in a location where students can access it. If you choose to involve the parents, make sure they can access it too.
2 Give yourself Controller permissions on the conference. If you are involving parents, give them Contributor permissions.
Click here for guidance with permissions.
3 Create a document for each student. This is where they will store their individual recipes.
STEP 2: Outline the details.
If you are involving parents, create a Welcome document in the conference that outlines the details of the project, such as what you are looking for, how it should be collected, how it should be submitted, and when it is due.
If parents have access to the conference, they can post the recipe in the appropriate document. If parents don't have access, students can email you the recipes.
STEP 3: Scan in the photos.
After students have submitted their recipe and literary connection, you may need to scan in the photos if they are not already image files. Upload each of them to the respective document.
STEP 4: Share the recipe book.
Make sure each student's name is included in the recipe, and then rename each document to the name of the recipe. Voila! You have a recipe book you can share with parents, the school, or the community.
